One of Carlinville’s Historic Properties - Stately At Best

What a privilege it is for Firm Foundations Realty to present this stately home for our clients and present owners Don and Trish Roderick. I found myself in awe as Trish gave me a grand tour of this home while gathering information to complete my listing. It was like taking a step back in time.

As I traveled up and down that majestic staircase to measure rooms I wondered how many times Lincoln has stayed in one of the bedrooms for his over night visits and grasped the original brass knobs that are still there.

I found the upper bathroom a unique renovation of what was more than likely the maid’s quarters. 9 x 15 in size with the old claw foot bathtub, a sink dropped into an antique piece of furniture and updated shower. Supplement heat has been added to this room to keep you warm while standing on the tile and hardwood flooring. The steam heat in this home is very efficient according to Rodericks and Trish added that it is very clean heat.

This 2 story home sits on a corner lot admirable for passers by, just a block from Macoupin County’s Million Dollar Courthouse. Walk to nearby attorney’s, title companies, Post Office, downtown restaurants and shopping. Be the envy of all your historic friends as you entertain from either porch up or downstairs.

Cause one to wonder how the builders back then put one of these well built structures together with no modern help from the tools used today and yet they are still standing tall. The basement beams are humongous! And the craftsmanship in the trims and woodworks leave no doubt that someone had a mighty gift to leave for generations to come.
